About

Lina Bo is a contemporary artist who primarily works in the fields of painting and performance. She graduated in “Painting” from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia. Lina Bo stands out as an artist who boldly challenges established norms and defends female independence and freedom. Her paintings are saturated with multilayered symbolism, revealing a woman who defies imposed stereotypes and asserts her own identity. Lina Bo uses her own image to present the transformation of womanhood—from her hidden desires to her rebellious nature.

Lina Bo creates  figurative compositions reminiscent of classical painting, skillfully blended with modern technologies like digital printing. This creates a sense of merging classic and contemporary elements—a hallmark of her artistic approach. A key part of Lina Bo’s creative process is the inclusion of her own persona as an artistic character, turning it into a unique trademark. This approach is justified because rarely is an artist’s personal life so closely intertwined with their work, while also being so carefully concealed.

Her paintings frequently depict sensual portraits of herself, her twin sister, aiming to convey her inner world and intense emotions. Through her art, she explores eroticism, uncovering its hidden messages and immaterial dimensions.

Lina Bo’s art reveals her as an artist in constant metamorphosis, expressing her most intimate desires and her vision of a fabled world. The women in Lina Bo’s works are strong, courageous, independent, bold, and seductive—true 21st-century rebels.  The most remarkable quality of her work is her ability to recreate personal experiences that provoke the viewer and do not leave anyone indifferent to the erotic world she creates.

If you believe that the primary goal of art is to evoke emotion, Lina Bo’s work is a testament to this. Her paintings, presented with delicacy but also a significant degree of provocation, capture attention not only with refined taste but also with the ability to cross boundaries and challenge societal stereotypes.

Lina Bo has participated in exhibitions both in Bulgaria and internationally, with notable showcases in Sofia, London and Matera.

Artist’s statement

Through my art, which often features nudity and bold scenes, I seek to express myself, my world, my aspirations. My turbulent childhood, my teenage years, cinema, and particularly provocative directors like Bernardo Bertolucci and François Ozon, strongly influence my work.

I support the freedom of the contemporary woman—the freedom of choice, the freedom to express her desires, and the courage to be herself. The purity and simplicity of my pictorial means express the sincerity and freedom I seek in my art. I believe that women must be free in their choices, without being judged and without fear of expressing their preferences.
